Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), dermarolling, or skin needling, is a professional treatment designed to naturally rejuvenate the skin.
This minimally invasive procedure uses fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries, triggering the skin’s natural healing response. As a result, fibroblast cells are activated to produce new collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, helping to firm, smooth, and revitalise the skin.
Microneedling is ideal for improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, open pores, scarring, stretch marks, skin laxity, and uneven tone. The treatment involves minimal discomfort, quick recovery, and long-lasting results — with collagen production continuing for up to two years after treatment.
It’s a completely natural way to boost your skin’s repair and renewal process for a fresher, smoother, and more radiant complexion.
Microneedling works by creating tiny, controlled micro-injuries in the skin — just enough to trigger your body’s natural healing response without causing real damage. This process activates collagen and elastin production, helping to rejuvenate, smooth, and strengthen your skin.
This is how your skin repairs and renews itself after treatment:
1. Haemostasis (Immediate Response)
Right after microneedling, your body begins to stop any micro-bleeding and form a protective layer. This activates growth factors and healing signals, preparing the skin for regeneration.
2. Inflammation (0–48 Hours)
The skin’s immune response kicks in to remove damaged cells and fight bacteria. You may notice slight redness or warmth — this is your skin’s natural way of starting the healing and renewal process.
3. Proliferation (Days 3–10)
Fresh new cells begin to form, along with collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. This stage helps to plump, firm, and smooth the skin, improving its overall texture and tone.
4. Remodelling (Up to 2 Years)
New collagen fibres continue to strengthen and organise, leading to firmer, more youthful skin over time. This long-term process is why microneedling results continue to improve even months after treatment.
When will I see results?
Some clients notice a glow within a few days, but expect optimal results after 4-6weeks, continuing to improve for several months.
How many session will I need?
For best results, a course of 3 to 6 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart is recommended. Maintenance treatments can then be carried out as needed to keep your skin looking its best.
Is there any downtime?
You may experience some redness or mild sensitivity for 1–2 days after treatment, similar to a light sunburn. You can return to most normal activities straight away, but it’s best to avoid makeup, heat, and active skincare for 24 hours.
Does it hurt?
Most clients describe the treatment as slightly prickly but comfortable. A soothing serum is applied throughout, and any redness or sensitivity usually settles within 24–48 hours.
Is its safe for all skin types?
Yes — microneedling is suitable for most skin types and tones. A consultation will always be carried out beforehand to ensure it’s the right treatment for your skin.
