Chemical Peels in Colchester

Woman getting a facial treatment with a brush.

What is a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels are professional skin resurfacing treatments designed to improve skin tone, texture and radiance through controlled exfoliation and skin renewal.

At Rose Lily Beauty, each chemical peel is selected following a consultation and skin analysis, allowing the treatment to be tailored to your individual skin, concerns and goals.

Chemical peels can help improve:

🤎 Dull or lacklustre skin

🤎 Fine lines and visible signs of ageing

🤎 Pigmentation and uneven skin tone

🤎 Blemishes and congestion

🤎 Rough or uneven skin texture

Depending on the peel selected and your individual skin response, you may experience mild dryness or light flaking as the skin renews.

The result: smoother, brighter and more radiant-looking skin.

How We Select the Right Peel for You

Before recommending a chemical peel, we provide a full consultation and skin analysis to understand your skin's needs and concerns. During your consultation, we'll discuss your goals, realistic outcomes and what you can expect from your treatment.

We also use the Fitzpatrick Skin Scale, which considers your natural skin colour and response to sun exposure. This helps us select a peel and treatment approach that is appropriate for your individual skin.

Your treatment is always personalised rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

Your Peel, Chosen for Your Skin

You don't need to worry about which acid, strength, or formulation is right for you. After a consultation, I will select the most suitable professional MediMD peel based on your unique skin and treatment goals. These MediMD peels offer numerous chemical peel benefits tailored to your needs, including: Brighten • Clarify • Smooth • Renew • Even.

Your peel selection may also evolve over time as your skin responds and your treatment objectives progress.

Here’s a guide to the skin resurfacing treatments we utilize:

Glycolic Acid (AHA): A small-molecule alpha hydroxy acid that resurfaces the skin, improving fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation, and acne.

Lactic Acid (AHA): This gentle alpha hydroxy acid is ideal for sensitive, mature, or dehydrated skin; it effectively brightens and smooths skin texture.

Salicylic Acid (BHA): Known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties, this beta hydroxy acid controls acne, reduces oil, refines pores, and evens skin tone.

Kojic Acid / Jessner Peel: This combination treatment uses multiple acids for resurfacing, brightening, and lightening pigmentation, while Kojic Acid inhibits melanin production to fade dark spots and acne scars.

FAQ

Does a chemical peel hurt?

Most clients experience mild tingling or warmth during treatment. The sensation can vary depending on the peel selected and your individual skin sensitivity. Your skin will be carefully monitored throughout the treatment.

What can I expect after a peel?

Your skin may feel slightly warm or sensitive and may appear pink following treatment. Depending on your skin and the chemical peel selected, you may also experience temporary dryness or mild flaking as the skin renews.

Full aftercare guidance will be provided, including advice on skincare, SPF, makeup and active ingredients to help protect your skin and support the best possible results.

How many sessions will I need?

For clients working towards specific skin goals, a personalised course of 3–6 treatments may be recommended. Treatment intervals will depend on the peel selected, your skin condition and how your skin responds. Maintenance treatments can then be incorporated into your ongoing skincare plan where appropriate.

Is a Chemical Peel Suitable for Me?

Chemical peels are suitable for many skin types and concerns; however, there are circumstances where treatment may need to be avoided, postponed or adapted.

Treatment may not be suitable if you have:

• An active bacterial, viral or fungal skin infection

• Cold sores, open wounds, cuts or broken skin in the treatment area

• Severe sunburn or recent excessive sun exposure

• A severe eczema, psoriasis or dermatitis flare-up

• Active acne with open pustules or cystic acne

• Recently undergone microneedling, laser or another skin resurfacing treatment

• Recently used certain prescription topical retinoids

• Uncontrolled diabetes

• Recently undergone chemotherapy or radiotherapy

• Pregnancy or breastfeeding, depending on the peel being considered

Treatment may need to be postponed or adapted if you have:

• Mild eczema, dermatitis or psoriasis

• Rosacea or particularly sensitive skin

• Dilated or broken capillaries

• Recent scar tissue, bruising or trauma to the skin

• Controlled diabetes

• Recently used retinoids, steroids or exfoliating skincare products

• Recently taken certain medications that may affect your skin or treatment suitability

Please inform us of all medications, medical conditions, allergies, recent aesthetic or skin treatments and any changes to your health during your consultation.

You may be asked to temporarily stop certain active skincare products before your treatment. Personalised preparation and aftercare guidance will be provided according to your skin and the peel selected.

A consultation and patch test are required before your first chemical peel to assess your skin and ensure the selected treatment is appropriate for you.
